Tom O’Shea

As a Research Fellow in Agent-Based Modelling for the INFUZE project at Leeds, I focus on exploring pathways for transitions towards reduced car ownership using Agent Based Models (ABMs), interfacing with industry-leading models to assess future transport systems.

My interdisciplinary expertise spans climate resilience, complex systems modelling, and socio-environmental analysis, with past research addressing flood dynamics, urban adaptation, and policy development. Previously, I have held a University Fellowship at Salford, advancing spatial analysis for sustainable cities, and contributed to projects including the Adaptive & Resilient Communities under Climate Change (ARCC), collaborating with the Environment Agency to develop adaptation pathways for Lincolnshire’s coastal communities; Future Resilience for African Cities and Lands (FRACTAL-PLUS), working alongside the UK Met Office and the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre to strengthen climate change resilience in Lusaka, Zambia; and the UKRI GCRF Tomorrow’s Cities initiative, supporting pro-poor hazard modelling strategies. Across these roles, I have integrated computational modelling with stakeholder engagement to develop policy-relevant solutions that enhance societal and environmental resilience.
